Every NFT collection has its own unique contract address. It is important to verify the contract address before buying any NFTs from a collection, as duplicate collections may try to use similar or identical contract addresses to scam buyers.

In OpenSea Pro, you can now go directly to the collection contract by clicking the Etherscan logo (see below).

In the example above, you can see that the official contract address is 0xd774557b647330c91bf44cfeab205095f7e6c367.

You can also determine this by looking at any item in the collection. Let’s look at Nakamigos #15580 (see below). You can see the same contract address in the URL after tokenAddress=.

If you know the contract address, you can double-check the collection contract address by looking at the URL structure on other marketplaces like OpenSea, LooksRare or X2Y2.

As we can see above, the contract address is also 0xd774557b647330c91bf44cfeab205095f7e6c367 which matches what is displayed on OpenSea Pro and Etherscan.

Checking the contract address is straightforward for well-known collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). But what about if a collection has just minted, or it’s not verified with a checkmark on major NFT platforms yet?

Here’s a list of things to check before you buy a new NFT.

1) Identify the proper collection contract address from official channels (eg. Discord, Twitter)

2) Check to see if this collection contract is the same across other marketplaces (eg. OpenSea, LooksRare, X2Y2).

3) Check to see if the number of collection holders matches the number of collection owners on NFT marketplaces.
